Shane van Gisbergen has elevated New Zealand to the second-most-winning nation in NASCAR after his latest wins in Sonoma.
It was a Sonoma-sweep for SVG as he won the O’Reilly and Cup Series races held at the venue to take his all-time winning tally between the two to 14.
SVG represents all of New Zealand’s victories and now goes ahead of Canada on 13.
“I’m not really a stats or numbers person, but I did see that New Zealand became the winningest country in (NASCAR), so that’s awesome,” van Gisbergen revealed.
“It’s so cool to be competing in the series and have a stat like that, but also be so welcomed.”
Winning on debut in 2023 on the streets of Chicago, SVG won five times during his rookie Cup Series season last year at Mexico City, Chicago, Sonoma, Watkins Glen and the Charlotte Roval.
SVG has this season added victories at Watkins Glen and Sonoma in Cup to bolster his six wins in the O’Reilly Series.
Sitting behind Canada is Mexico off the back of Daniel Suárez, with Australia fourth courtesy of Marcos Ambrose’s seven wins.
Other internationals to win include Juan Pablo Montoya, Nelson Piquet Jr and Mario Andretti.
