Kai Allen has led the way after opening practice at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The Repco Supercars Championship’s first taste of the Mountain in 2026 when relatively drama-free as Allen set a 2m 05.546s late in the session to lead PremiAir Racing’s Jayden Ojeda by 0.327s.
An off-track excursion for Erebus Motorsport’s Jarrod Hughes forced a red flag towards the end of the session, but this didn’t hamper Allen when practice resumed.
Snowy River Racing’s David Reynolds was third fastest after demoting Cam Waters during the closings stages as the DEWALT Racing Camaro of Anton De Pasquale completed the top five.
A steady start for Brodie Kostecki placed him sixth for the Shell V-Power Racing Team ahead of Monster Castrol racing’s Thomas Randle, the second PremiAir Racing Camaro of Declan Fraser, Finals contender James Golding and Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne.
Power steering problems delayed Payne’s progress, while most of the field complained of brake dramas led by Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney after finishing 19th.
Jobe Stewart, Jack Le Brocq, Cooper Murray, Will Brown and James Moffat just missed the top 10.
The Bend 500 winner Chaz Mostert was 17th ahead of teammate Ryan Wood in 20th, Craig Lowndes was 22nd and Andre Heimgartner was in the middle of the Brad Jones Racing sandwich in 24th.
The Repco Supercars Championship will return to the track for a co-driver session at 3:45pm AEDT.
