Broc Feeney has secured pole position for the second race of the 2026 Repco Supercars Finals Series after edging out Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Will Brown in a wet Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout on the Gold Coast.
The #88 Ford Mustang driver delivered a stunning lap of 1:15.4474 to beat Brown by just 0.0717 seconds, with both drivers finding the limit in treacherous conditions around the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit.
Aaron Cameron impressed to secure third on the grid, ahead of Brodie Kostecki, while Ryan Wood and debutant Jarrod Hughes secured impressive top-six starting positions. Cooper Murray, Cam Waters, Chaz Mostert and Cameron Hill completed the top 10.
Earlier, drivers faced challenging conditions in the opening qualifying session, with heavy rain leaving the circuit treacherous as the field battled for positions 19-24.
Jackson Walls was the first major casualty, spinning through the Beach Chicane and striking the tyre wall to bring out an early red flag before all drivers could register a representative lap.
With just seven and a half minutes remaining when the session resumed, drivers had little opportunity to change tyres, turning the remainder of qualifying into a race against the worsening conditions.
While lap times continued to improve, several key Finals contenders were unable to find the pace required to advance. Jack Le Brocq, Anton De Pasquale and Kai Allen were shock eliminations in 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively, joining Thomas Randle, Rylan Gray and Walls in the drop zone.
Championship leader Matt Payne also faced a difficult session, qualifying 14th, while Waters and Kostecki finished 16th and 17th respectively. Kostecki was subsequently placed under investigation for potentially impeding David Reynolds.
Saturday pole sitter Feeney topped the opening session with a 1:15.9945, setting himself up for another strong qualifying performance.
Rain continued to threaten as Q2 began, prompting drivers to get on track early before conditions potentially deteriorated further. A split in tyre strategy saw Feeney and Brown initially lead the way on used, warm tyres, while Saturday race winner Mostert built momentum on a fresh set.
Zach Bates narrowly avoided bringing out another red flag when he struck the tyre wall at Turn 2, coming to a halt facing backwards on the run to the hairpin before spinning the car around and rejoining the circuit.
Attention turned to the cut-off for the Top Ten Shootout in the closing minutes, with Payne briefly moving into the top 10 before Waters reclaimed a position inside the qualifying zone.
Payne was unable to respond, finishing 12th, while both Penrite Fords missed the Shootout in a significant blow to their qualifying hopes.
Feeney and Brown again led the way, with the #88 Ford posting a 1:15.7818 to top the session. Kostecki qualified third, ahead of Mostert, while four non-Finals drivers produced standout performances to reach the Shootout.
Cameron Hill qualified fifth, ahead of Cooper Murray, Aaron Cameron and debutant Hughes, with Waters and Wood completing the top 10.
Wood was first to set a benchmark in the Shootout, producing a 1:16.1924 to improve on his earlier qualifying effort by a tenth of a second. Waters was more than two tenths slower, while Hughes impressed in his maiden Shootout appearance to finish just 0.0173 seconds behind Wood.
Cameron then moved to the top with a 1:15.7732, putting himself in contention for a maiden Supercars pole position. Murray and Hill also pushed hard, with both drivers having close calls through the chicanes as they searched for time.
Mostert’s hopes faded after a mistake at Turn 4, while Kostecki was unable to maintain his pace across the full lap. Brown subsequently delivered a 1:15.5191 to move ahead of Cameron and put pressure on Feeney.
However, Feeney had the final say, producing a spectacular run through the Beach Chicane to clock a 1:15.4474 and secure pole position by just 0.0717 seconds over his teammate.
Cameron will start alongside Kostecki on the second row, while Wood and Hughes line up fifth and sixth respectively. Murray, Waters, Mostert and Hill complete the top 10.
Feeney’s pole position sets up another intriguing contest on the Gold Coast, with the Red Bull Ampol Racing teammates starting at the front as the championship battle intensifies in the Finals Series.
