Following on from his performance in yesterday’s two practice sessions, Shell V-Power Racing’s Anton De Pasquale completed a day of domination by leading from start-to-finish Race 20 of the Repco Supercars Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.
In Qualifying, it was a Shell V-Power Racing 1-2 as Will Davison was 0.142s behind De Pasquale, with Repco Supercars Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen third.
Others to go through to the Top 10 Shootout were Nick Percat, Will Brown, Cam Waters, Brodie Kostecki, Jamie Whincup, Chaz Mostert and Tim Slade.
In the Top 10 Shootout De Pasquale was dominant finishing 0.528s ahead of his nearest rival Brown in the Erebus Motorsport Holden Commodore.
Championship leader van Gisbergen was only sixth, but ahead of title rivals Waters and Whincup.
The start of Race 20 had plenty of action as De Pasquale and Brown went through Turn 1 side-by-side, with this continuing at Turn 2 before the Erebus driver was forced to yield. Davison made the best start, but was boxed in and exiting Turn 3 was forced wide by Brown, losing multiple positions.
Van Gisbergen also scythed his way to third, taking advantage of Davison’s off track trip as Brown continued to pressure De Pasquale during the opening stint.
Davison lost further ground to Percat and Kostecki, while Mostert also made a play prior to the pit stops.
On lap 12, both De Pasquale and Brown took service, but a problem executing the right rear tyre change cost the latter position as he ended the race fifth.
Kostecki had a cleaner stop and finished the race third after a late race battle with Percat, which demoted the latter off the podium.
At the conclusion, De Pasquale continued his Sydney Motorsport Park dominance to lead home van Gisbergen by 4.4s
Rounding out the 10 behind Brown were Mostert, Davison, David Reynolds, Whincup and Slade, with Fabian Coulthard 11th for Team Sydney.
Tomorrow’s Supercars action begins at 10:30am AEDT with Qualifying for Race 21.
