Australian Oscar Piastri has etched his name into history, claiming his first victory in the Formula 1 World Championship at Hungary.
The win sees the Melbourne-born and raised driver becoming the fifth Australian to take an F1 win behind the likes of Sir Jack Brabham, Alan Jones, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo.
In what turned out to be a tense Grand Prix, Piastri led the race from the outset and seemed destined for a lights-to-flag win, however the team allowed Piastri’s team-mate Lando Norris passed during the pit stop cycle.
The pit shuffle gave Norris track advantage and, seemingly, a clear run to victory.
With just three laps to run, Norris finally gave up the position, handing Piastri his maiden Grand Prix win.
The win has firmly put Piastri in fifth place in the world title chase and within striking distance of the two Ferraris in front of him.
The other Australian in the race, Ricciardo who has won eight Grand Prixs in his career, finished 12th.
The next Formula 1 Grand Prix will be held at the world-famous Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
