Broc Feeney wins dramatic third Supercars encounter

Broc Feeney has taken his second win of the weekend at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint after a clash between two Ford rivals paved the way for a Red Bull Ampol Racing 1-2.

An opening lap collision between Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters and polesitter Matt Payne in the Penrite Racing Mustang at the final corner allowed both Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaros to take the two top spots and elevated Chaz Mostert in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing to third.
Payne made a successful pass for the lead at Turn 11, before contact was made at Turn 13 by Waters. To improve his entry onto the front straight, Payne elected to take a wide line, but Waters was already there and the two collided with dramatic effect, with both ending in the concrete wall.

Waters was quick to display his displeasure by having a chat to Payne, while the latter was still in his Mustang.

Contact was made further in the pack earlier in the lap when Mark Winterbottom tapped Cam Hill, but all recovered only losing a few positions.

A prolonged safety car period followed and this ensured the race was shortened to a nine lap affair compred to the originally scheduled 14.

Despite an attempted pass at Turn 3 by Mostert on Brown, the top three remained the same until the chequered flag.

Behind, David Reynolds was a major winner to finish fourth from Erebus Motorsport duo Jack Le Brocq and Todd Hazelwood. Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway salvaged seventh for his team ahead of PremiAir Nulon Racing’s Tim Slade, Bendix Racing driver Nick Percat and Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing rookie Ryan Wood, who scored his maiden Supercars top 10.

The final race of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint will take place at 10:25am AEDT tomorrow.
