Following in the footsteps of Repco Supercars Championship rival Shane van Gisbergen, Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 13.
Currently second in the Repco Supercars Championship, Kostecki will race for the legendary Richard Childress Racing driving the #33 MobileX Chevrolet Camaro joining Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon.
MobileX is the new company of Australian entrepreneur Peter Adderton, while further backing is provided by Adelaide-based advanced technology company VAILO in addition to Erebus-backer Shaw & Partners.
“I am thrilled to be making my NASCAR Cup debut at the Brickyard,” said Kostecki.
“It’s an honour to compete at such an iconic venue and against some of the biggest names in motorsport.
“I’m incredibly grateful to RCR for giving me this opportunity and I’m determined to make the most of it.
“Racing is at the core of everything I do, and NASCAR has been a lifelong goal of mine after spending years growing up in the sports heartland in North Carolina.
“It’s a whole different world over there and any additional time I can spend racing is only going to help me try and win my first Supercars Championship.
“We got some great exposure to the inner sanctum of the team during our recent trip, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the team, this time as a Cup Series driver.”
Kostecki previously raced in a NASCAR feeder class a decade ago contesting the K&N Pro Series where he impressed by taking two poles, a circuit record and a sole top five finish in 14 starts.
This deal came through Erebus Motorsport’s Super2 affiliate Image Racing led by Terry Wyhoon, who enjoys links with RCR Team Owner Richard Childress from racing at the Calder Park Thunderdome during the 1990s.
Erebus CEO Barry Ryan has said Kostecki’s NASCAR cameo comes with the team’s blessing following a four month lead in to make the opportunity happen.
“We encourage him to race as much as he can,” said Ryan.
“We have always encouraged Brodie’s pursuit of more racing opportunities…
“Providing him with the chance to explore and excel in various racing disciplines not only enhances his skills but also contributes to the overall growth and success of our team.”
Kostecki will contest the next round of the Repco Supercars Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park on July 28-31 before heading off to Indianapolis.
