The Wildcard entry of Matt Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham will usher in a new era for Caltex this weekend at Bathurst.
Teaming as the Caltex Young Stars, the duo will also feature support from the brand’s range of Techron fuels in addition to Jack and Co local stores.
Owned by American multinational energy corporation Chevron, Caltex holds a 70-year history in Australia and first provided major backing to an entry at the Bathurst 1000 in 1987’s World Touring Car Championship event when it backed Colin Bond’s Alfa Romeo 75.
It also provided naming rights support to the circuit alteration, the ‘Caltex Chase’ and has since taken victory as a backer to leading teams including Triple Eight Race Engineering.
Providing support to the program is the experienced Wally Storey as team manager, with both Chahda and Robotham making their first starts in the Mountain classic.
“To have the support of a global brand like Caltex is a huge boost for our first Bathurst 1000 campaign,” said Chahda. “The car looks fantastic and knowing that we’re carrying the same branding as some of the most famous names of this race is exciting.
“It’s an honour for us to represent Caltex, giving us the best possible opportunity to take on the challenge ahead of us this week. Our preparation has been fantastic, and Jaylyn and I are as ready to go as we can be. We can’t wait to get on track.”
At 19-years-old Robotham has impressed during his second season in Super2 driving as an Erebus Academy member at Image Racing and to contest the Repco Bathurst 1000 is a dream come true.
“It’s surreal that we have the support of a brand like Caltex for our Bathurst campaign this year,” Robotham said.
“I’m excited to be representing the Caltex Young Stars as Matt, the team and I go to Bathurst to tackle the Great Race for the first time.
“The build-up, testing and preparation have already been great, but to see the car in its Caltex with Techron® livery, alongside all our great supporters, makes it seem much more real. I couldn’t be more ready to go.”
Caltex is re-entering the Australian market and will rebrand most Puma sites, while new service stations will be opened in 2023.
