Title contender Cam Waters has topped the opening Repco Supercars Championship session in the Monster Castrol Racing Ford Mustang.
It was a Mustang 1-2 as Waters set a 1m 08.747s, with the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Ford shared by Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth just 0.144s behind.
TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds and Warren Luff rounded out the top three in the lead Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, while Thomas Randle completed a solid session for Monster Castrol Racing to be fourth in his retro liveried Mustang.
Mark Winterbottom and Michael Caruso in the Cub Cadet Racing Camaro rounded out the top five from the R&J Batteries Racing example for Andre Heimgartner paired with Declan Fraser.
Jack Le Brocq led the Erebus Motorsport charge in seventh as darkhorse combo Nick Percat and Dylan O’Keeffe for Bendix Racing.
Will Brown and Scott Dye were the first Red Bull Ampol Racing pairing in ninth from the SP Tools Chevrolet of Cameron Hill.
Dramas early for the Matt Payne Penrite Racing Mustang was traced to the power steering and was fixed by the end of the 30-minute session. Although he placed 20th on his first timed lap, Payne was forced to return to pit lane.
