Cameron Waters fastest in final Supercars qualifying of the season

Recovering from a calamitous event yesterday, Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters was fastest in the final Repco Supercars Championship qualifying session of the season in Adelaide.

A 1m 19.109s lap did the job for Waters as he led a Ford 1-2 at the top of the timesheets, with Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Anton De Pasquale just 0.061s off the benchmark.

Saturday race winner Chaz Mostert led the Holden charge in his Mobil 1 Optus Racing ZB Commodore in third, 0.237s in arrears. After a disastrous day yesterday, Shane van Gisbergen moved up to fourth from another to struggle in Will Davison.

Will Brown for Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus was sixth ahead of R&J Batteries Brad Jones Racing’s Andre Heimgartner, Broc Feeney in the second Red Bull Ampol Racing ZB Commodore, making another shootout on home turf was Todd Hazelwood in his final appearance for Matt Stone Racing and David Reynolds in the Penrite Racing Ford Mustang.

Hazelwood’s teammate Jack Le Brocq fell agonisingly short of making the Top 10 Shootout as did James Golding after a mechanical problem dropped the Subway PremiAir Racing ZB Commodore.

Team 18’s entries both failed to build on the pace demonstrated yesterday as Mark Winterbottom led its efforts in 13th and Scott Pye 19th after contending for the win yesterday.

James Courtney was also a lowly 18th after placing the Snowy Rivers Racing Mustang in the Top 10 Shootout and on the podium in Race 33.

In his last qualifying session as a Supercars full-timer, Lee Holdsworth was 22nd in the second Penrite Racing Mustang.

The Top 10 Shootout begins at 12:05pm ahead of Race 34 at 2:45pm ACDT.
