Reigning Repco Bathurst 1000 co-winner Chaz Mostert has finished the final practice session before the Top 10 Shootout this afternoon and tomorrow’s Great Race at the top of the timesheets.
Paired with Fabian Coulthard for the first time, Mostert set a benchmark of 2m 05.510s in his Walkinshaw Andretti United ZB Commodore in what he described as the happiest had been all weekend.
Mostert finished 0.103s clear of Repco Supercars Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen, who has a penalty hanging over his head for his collision with Brad Jones Racing’s Macauley Jones. The New Zealander will drop three grid slots following the Top 10 Shootout.
Will Davison was third maintaining his position as the lead Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang from Cameron Waters of Monster Energy Racing, Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds, Anton De Pasquale and Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki.
IRWIN Racing’s Mark Winterbottom will head into tomorrow’s main event with confidence after placing eighth ahead of Lee Holdsworth in the second Penrite Racing Mustang and Scott Pye in his Alspec Racing entry.
All teams took the opportunity to complete final pit stop practice including driver and tyre changes, in addition to fuel stops.
The session ended with a red flag after Jordan Boys hit the wall at McPhillamy Park in the Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore he’ll share with Macauley Jones.
There was no other problems encountered by teams as the Top 10 Shootout is next for the Repco Supercars Championship at Bathurst at 5:05pm.
