Dale Wood on top in penultimate practice session as contenders strike trouble

R&J Batteries BJR’s Dale Wood has finished on top in the penultimate practice session of the weekend, which was for co-driver’s only at Bathurst.

Wood set a 2m 26.222 in the damp conditions as a light shower started just prior to the session, which led to some moments including one for Jamie Whincup at Griffins Bend resulting in repairs being executed for the remainder of the on-track action.

Griffins Bend first caught out Jake Kostecki early in the session driving the TRADIE Racing Ford Mustang, which has endured a tough event up to this point after being off track three out of the five practices so far.

Others to go off included Great Race debutant Aaron Seton in the Truck Assist Racing ZB Commodore at The Esses and Michael Caruso driving the IRWIN Racing entry drew the session to an early conclusion when he left the circuit at The Chase.

Wood led Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Fabian Coulthard by 0.064s, while Jordan Boys made it two Brad Jones Racing entries in the top three.

Declan Fraser was the lead Wildcard in fourth from Penrite Racing’s Matt Campbell, the second WAU ZB Commodore of Warren Luff, Monster Energy Racing driver James Moffat, Dylan O’Keeffe in the Subway PremiAir Racing Holden, Zane Goddard in the Snowy River Racing Mustang and Whincup was 10th before his incident.

Another practice is to come before the Top 10 Shootout this evening, with the rain expected to continue throughout the day at Bathurst.
