David Russell leads the co-driver session at the Mountain

It was Coca-Cola by Erebus driver David Russell leading the way at the end of the co-driver only session to round out the opening day of track running at Bathurst.

Setting a 2m 05.682s, Russell led the way in the championship leader’s Chevrolet Camaro by 0.652s as Garth Tander continued Grove Racing’s strong opening day to be second.

New Zealander Richie Stanaway was third in the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro he will share with Shane van Gisbergen, while Dick Johnson Racing Wildcard driver Kai Allen finished the session an impressive fourth.

Zane Goddard was fifth for Triple Eight Race Engineering from team boss Jamie Whincup as the Shell V-Power Racing Team pair Alex Davison and Tony D’Alberto followed.

The second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Camaro of Jack Perkins and Lee Holdsworth for Mobil 1 Optus Racing completed the top 10.

Just missing the top 10 was Monster Energy Racing’s James Moffat, Jayden Ojeda in Jack Le Brocq’s Truck Assist Racing Camaro, the DEWALT Racing entry of Michael Caruso and the second Mobil 1 NTI Racing Mustang of Fabian Coulthard.

Sandown’s most impressive debutant, Penrite Racing’s Kevin Estre was 19th ahead of multiple Bathurst podium-getter Warren Luff and the Wildcard Blanchard Racing Team Mustang of Jake Kostecki.

There was one red flag during the session as Dean Fiore ran wide at Murray’s Corner and dug into the tyre wall becoming the first to crash a Gen3 Supercar at the Mountain.

Practice continues tomorrow at Mount Panorama for two sessions and qualifying in the afternoon, the first to be held at 10:00am AEDT.
