Davison brothers fastest in traditional morning warm up

The Shell V-Power Racing Team entry for brothers Alex and Will Davison has finished the traditional 20-minute morning warm up fastest heading into the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Davison led the early practice sessions at the Mountain and will start fifth for The Great Race, but took pre-race honours in the final systems check.

Setting a 2m 22.459s time in the damp conditions, the Shell V-Power Racing Ford Mustang led the similar front-row starting Penrite Racing example to be shared by Lee Holdsworth and Matt Payne.

The Subway PremiAir Racing entry of James Golding and Dylan O’Keeffe finished the session third from the Snowy River Racing Tickford Mustang of James Courtney, who will share with Zane Goddard.

Red Bull Ampol Racing Team’s Shane van Gisbergen was fifth in the ZB Commodore he’ll share with Garth Tander, while Will Brown followed in the lead Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus entry to be also driven by Jack Perkins.

Craig Lowndes and Declan Fraser’s Triple Eight Race Engineering Wildcard entry was seventh ahead of polesitter Cameron Waters in the Monster Energy Racing Mustang where he’ll combine with James Moffat, while Bryce Fullwood in the Middy’s Electrical Racing ZB Commodore followed, teaming with Dean Fiore.

Reigning Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert completed the top 10 in the Walkinshaw Andretti United ZB Commodore to be joined by Fabian Coulthard for the main event.

The warm up was without drama as the Truck Assist Racing ZB Commodore to be shared by Jack Le Brocq and rookie Aaron Seton had a steering problem identified following an overnight repair job as a result of the latter crashing across the top.

Le Brocq was confident it will be rectified by the race start.

TRADIE Racing was the only other to encounter problems as it failed to log a timed lap due to bodywork clearance problems with the wet tyres, but the Tickford Racing crew were already attending to this ahead of the main event.

This year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 is set to start at 11:15am.
