The final test for Gen3 has been undertaken before it is completely rolled out for next year’s Supercars Championship at Queensland Raceway yesterday.
A variety of drivers took to the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang following a successful appearance at the season ending Valo Adelaide 500 more than a week ago.
In Adelaide, leading Ford driver Cameron Waters and Brodie Kostecki of Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus were encouraged to rag the Gen3 prototypes around the street circuit to test the durability of each.
Following a successful run at the season finale, Queensland Raceway hosted the final outing for Gen3 this year ahead of a busy off-season for the Repco Supercars Championship teams in assembling the new models.
Tickford Racing veteran James Courtney was joined by Walkinshaw Andretti United endurance driver Warren Luff in the Mustang as the latter switched between the Camaro as well.
Kostecki’s teammate Will Brown and PremiAir Subway Racing’s James Golding took the wheel of the Camaro alongside young Porsche Carrera Cup Australia driver Bayley Hall.
Production and assembly for Gen3 will hit overdrive during the off-season with many teams now well underway in producing the first chassis for competition ahead of the first group tests in late-January.
Southern teams will test together on January 24 at Winton, with Queensland squads doing likewise at Ipswich six days later.
Teams will then return to these venues in February before a group test at Sydney Motorsport Park before the opening round in Newcastle on March 10-12.
