Gold Coast Supercars news recap

There was plenty of news revealed at last weekend’s Repco Supercars Championship round on the Gold Coast in regards to driver movements and the 2024 calendar.

First of all, it was confirmed Bathurst will open the championship next year after it was announced Newcastle was off for 2024. Coined the ‘SuperFest’, it will be a 10-day festival combining the opening round of the Repco Supercars Championship and the Bathurst 12 Hour at Australia’s prestigious mountain course.

The Bathurst 12 is already highly anticipated as it is expected a big international presence will feature on the entry list for the opening round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge scheduled for February 16-18. This will be followed by the opening round of the Repco Supercars Championship a week later in a repeat of 2021 when the drivers contested two 250km events.

The Bathurst SuperFest will give fans close to two weeks to celebrate some of the best drivers in the world, taking on Mount Panorama.

“Combining two marquee race meetings into the one major event in summer is an exciting initiative and we can’t wait to see fans fill the mountain and be a part of the action,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard.

“We thank the NSW Government and Bathurst Regional Council for supporting our vision to bring something new to fans.”

Add to this, Supercars has confirmed the dates for Townsville and the Gold Coast in 2024. For next year, Townsville celebrates its 15th anniversary on July 5-7 and Supercars on the Gold Coast celebrate 30 years since the first non-championship event in 1994, with the dates locked in for October 25-27.

As the 2024 calendar for the Repco Supercars Championship continues to be locked in, so are some of the drivers as announced prior to the weekend James Courtney will pair with rookie Aaron Love at the Blanchard Racing Team.

It was also confirmed Chaz Mostert will be at Walkinshaw Andretti United for the seasons to come after extending his contract with the squad.

Mostert will work as a mentor to rookie signing Ryan Wood, who is elevated from the team’s Super2 programme for 2024.
