Goodwood Festival of Speed delivers again

Eye-watering, rare, fast and prestigious are just four adjectives associated to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which was held recently on the grounds of the famous estate resided on by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon CBE DL.

A theme is celebrated by the event each edition and the focus on ‘The Rivals’, which focused on the history of intense motorsport battles.

The famous runs up the Goodwood Hillclimb welcomed a wide array of entries headlined by the Pikes Peak winning Ford Super Mustang Mach-E, which added this crown as well.

Setting a 41.98s time up the hill was driver Romain Dumas to be fastest just ahead of Dan Ticktum steering the GEN4 Formula E by just 0.48s.
Alex Summers was the first entrant featuring a combustion engine in third driving a Shadow-Chevrolet DN4.

Pre-event favourite Johan Kristoffersson finished fourth in a Volkswagen Polo similar to one used in the European Rallycross Championship and won a dollar in the process by defeating action sports star Travis Pastrana in his Subaru Brataroo 9500 by 0.45s following a bet prior to the event.

Other interesting entries to take on the climb included an ex-IMSA Nissan 300ZX Turbo, a Dodge Viper GTS-R and drift star Ryan Tuerck’s Judd V10 Formula Supra.

Motorsport legend on both two and four wheels Johnny Cecotto also took on the hillclimb, but crashed out into hay bales in a BMW M3 DTM.

Other attractions included Lando Norris debuting McLaren’s new entry into the World Endurance Championship, the MCL-HY.

Ford also put its trio of 24 Hours of Le Mans Ford GTs from the 1966 edition on display, while rally cars competed on the dirt stage within the grounds.

Plenty of history and a bucket list event for many motorsport fans.
