Heartbreak for David Reynolds, Will Brown takes Bathurst pole

The opening race of the season will have an all-Red Bull Ampol Racing front-row, but it’s new recruit Will Brown on pole alongside Broc Feeney following the Top 10 Shootout at the Thrifty Bathurst 500.

Brown was the penultimate driver to take on the Shootout and set a 2m 06.374s to beat the previous benchmark set by Chaz Mostert as Feeney was unable to defeat his new teammate on his run.

Just 0.007s separated Feeney and Mostert as the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Ford Mustang proved a great package in the Top 10 Shootout.

The surprise packet of the run was Matt Stone Racing’s Cameron Hill in fourth after setting a 2m 06.7241s as the third driver in the one-lap dash.

Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway will start fifth and was another to rise up the order.

Nulon PremiAir Racing’s James Golding, Todd Hazelwood of Erebus Motorsport and Matt Stone Racing’s new recruit Nick Percat all followed.

Anton De Pasquale leads Shell V-Power Racing Team’s charge from ninth as David Reynolds starts from 10th after misfortune prior to his lap.

The TRADIE Racing Camaro ZL1 had a tyre go flat on the warm up lap preventing Reynolds from completing a lap.

Race 1 is due to commence at 4pm AEDT.
