Herrod launch 40th anniversary DJR Mustang

A new Ford Mustang fettled by specialists Herrod Motorsport has been released commemorating the 40th anniversary of Dick Johnson’s first Bathurst victory in 1981.

Yes, it’s arrival is a year later due to supply, but the 578kw beast will be made in limited numbers as just 100 will be built to be split between Australia and New Zealand.

And for those eagle-eyed Repco The Garage regulars, it is very similar to the Mustang given away by Johnson himself at Bathurst late last year.

The expected price tag is $130,000 including the Mustang GT donor, which is heavily modified through the addition of a HP GenX Whipple supercharger, Herrod Performance bimodal exhaust, uprated radiators for both engine and transmission.

Larger 20-inch wheels are combined with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres all round, while spring and swaybars are replaced, while MagneRide dampers complete the package.

A body kit comprising of a front splitter and rear wing ensures the 40th anniversary special is distinguishable compared to other Mustangs on the road, while the interior features an Alcantara steering wheel, dash plaque and embroidered seats.
