Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Lee Holdsworth has backed up lead driver Chaz Mostert’s performance in opening practice this morning by leading this afternoon’s co-driver session.
Holdsworth set a time of 2m 05.2258s to finish 0.3776s clear of Tickford Racing’s James Moffat, who will share with Cam Waters for The Great Race.
The performance of Holdsworth followed Mostert’s second place in opening practice, enhancing their position as one of the race favourites.
The session finished early as the red flag was flown after Brad Jones Racing’s Chris Pither crashed heavily at Forrest’s Elbow adding to lead driver Macauley Jones’ power steering drama in the earlier session.
Rounding out the top three was Alex Davison in the Shell V-Power Racing Ford Mustang he’ll share with brother Will for their fifth campaign in the 1000.
Red Bull Ampol Racing Team’s Garth Tander followed in the newly numbered #888 Holden Commodore 0.8698s in arrears of Holdsworth as Dean Fiore completed the top five in the Brad Jones Racing Commodore of lead driver Todd Hazelwood.
Craig Lowndes, Luke Youlden, Tickford Racing Bathurst 1000 rookie Zak Best, Tony D’Alberto and David Russell rounded out the top 10.
Tomorrow’s Repco Supercars Championship starts at 10:40am AEDT with a co-driver session, before another all-in practice at 1:30pm AEDT ahead of Qualifying at 4:35pm.
