Grove Racing’s Matt Payne has set the fastest time in the third practice session ahead of the Repco Bathurst 1000 to open up proceedings for the Supercars on Friday.
In a big day of action culminating in this afternoon’s qualifying session, Payne set a 2m 05.285s to lead a Grove Racing 1-2 as David Reynolds was just 0.088s behind his junior teammate at the end of the hour session.
Championship leader Brodie Kostecki was third for Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus in the first Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Shell V-Power Racing Team made it four Mustangs in the top five courtesy of Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale, with Repco Supercars Championship rookie Cameron Hill sixth in the Truck Assist Racing Camaro.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Sandown 500 winning pairing of Broc Feeney and Jamie Whincup followed from Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert, Cam Waters in the Monster Energy Racing Mustang, and Andre Heimgartner’s R&J Batteries Camaro completed the top 10.
Will Brown was 16th in the second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Camaro leading Mark Winterbottom, Jack Le Brocq and Shane van Gisbergen in quick succession.
Outside the top 20 were Nick Percat, Todd Hazelwood, Craig Lowndes and Thomas Randle.
Van Gisbergen and Triple Eight Race Engineering Wildcard driver Zane Goddard experienced scares during the session. The reigning champion went off at The Chase, while Goddard had a moment at McPhillamy Park.
The red flag stopped the session midway through as Zak Best stopped on Conrod Straight due to an engine problem, later diagnosed as a belt snapped leading to overheating.
Practice 4 continues the Repco Supercars Championship action at Bathurst, with it commencing at 1:05pm AEDT before qualifying begins at 4:15pm AEDT.
