Pole for Brodie Kostecki on the Gold Coast as rivals falter in Shootout

After securing the overall season-long pole award, Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver and championship leader Brodie Kostecki has added another in a mistake-filled Top 10 Shootout for Race 26 on the Gold Coast.

Kostecki was the sixth to run and set a 1m 11.011s to set the benchmark to that point, but it proved enough as key title rival Shane van Gisbergen copped a kerb strike on his lap in the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro as did Anton De Pasquale.

There was further drama as Will Brown collided with the wall heavily exiting the opening chicane as he will start eighth, while provisional polesitter Cam Waters went down the escape road at Turn 9 in the Monster Energy Racing Mustang.

Sharing the front row with Kostecki is David Reynold, who was just 0.137s off pole after setting the best middle sector of the Shootout as his rookie teammate Matt Payne continued his strong form to line-up third.

Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert, Mark Winterbottom in the DEWALT Racing Camaro and James Golding for Nulon Racing filled the next slots before Waters, Brown, van Gisbergen and De Pasquale.

Race 26 is set to begin at 2:15pm AEST/3:15pm AEDT.
