A last gasp lap from Broc Feeney placed his Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 fastest leading into qualifying at Albert Park later this afternoon.
Feeney set a 1m 47.305s in the final seconds to demote Monster Castrol Racing’s Cameron Waters to second, while Anton De Pasquale rounded out the top three after he too set a late time.
R&J Batteries Racing’s Andre Heimgartner continued Brad Jones Racing’s good form in fourth from Chaz Mostert in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Ford Mustang and Matt Payne for Penrite Racing.
Will Brown sat fifth for the final 10 minutes of the session until dropping to seventh ahead of the TRADIE Beer Racing Camaro of David Reynolds and the lead Erebus Motorsport entry of Jack Le Brocq.
DEWALT Racing’s Mark Winterbottom completed the top 10 as Team 18 enjoyed two entries in the lead runners heading into the qualifying.
Despite topping the session, Feeney did have a slight scare after running wide at Turn 9 when the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro scraped the wall.
To miss the top 10, Nick Percat, Thomas Randle, Richie Stanaway, Will Davison, opening practice leader Macauley Jones and James Golding.
Two-part qualifying for the Repco Supercars Championship field begins at 3:10pm AEDT.
