It will be a season of milestones next year for the Repco Supercars Championship after releasing its calendar for the 2022 campaign.
Beginning in Newcastle on November 23-26, the Repco Supercars Championship returns as a support category at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix on March 30-April 2, before heading to Perth at the end of the month on April 28-30.
Symmons Plains is next on the calendar on May 19-21 ahead of the Darwin Triple Crown a month later on June 16-18, while Townsville follows in early July.
The Sydney SuperNight marks the second half of the season on July 28-30 ahead of The Bend on August 18-20 and the return of an endurance event at Sandown as the 500 is reinstated on its traditional September date.
The 60th Repco Bathurst 1000 follows on October 5-8 ahead of Gold Coast three weekends later and the season finale at Adelaide on November 23-26.
It marks the first season for the eagerly anticipated Gen3 regulations as the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro are the hero models of the Repco Supercars Championship, the first time since the early-1970s these two muscle car nameplates have done battle for in Australian touring car racing.
“With the Camaro vs Mustang debut, the return of the Sandown 500 and our marquee event, the Repco Bathurst 1000, celebrating its 60th anniversary, 2023 is shaping as one of the most exciting in the history of our sport,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard.
“This year we have seen huge crowds return to our events and Adelaide is shaping as a spectacular finale for the Holden Commodore and Ford Mustang rivalry.
“We cannot wait to rollout out our Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro at Newcastle in March. What an amazing way to start the new chapter of racing for our sport.”
New Zealand is an omission from the 2023 calendar, but Howard explained discussions continue for a return in the future.
“We are still in progressive talks with our counterparts there for an event in the future, however as they continue it is in the best interest of all parties involved to focus on 2024 and beyond,” he said.
“We have every intention to return to New Zealand and we are confident of an announcement in the new year regarding a partnership with a new venue.”
Super2/3 will feature on the support card at Newcastle, Perth, Townsville, Sandown, Bathurst and Adelaide in a new generation for the category in a ZB Commodore vs CoTF Ford Mustang battle.
