Shane van Gisbergen sets practice record in Adelaide

Red Bull Ampol Racing Team’s Shane van Gisbergen has set a record pace in the second practice session at the Repco Supercars Championship finale, the Valo Adelaide 500.

Van Gisbergen achieved his lap time during the closing stages of the session at a 1m 19.199s to go under the previous benchmark held by Thomas Randle by 0.033s.

The Castrol Racing driver’s lap was atop of the standings for much of the session until van Gisbergen gazumped the field. Tickford Racing teammate Cameron Waters displayed the squad’s pace in Adelaide by finishing third, 0.102s from the fastest time.

Van Gisbergen’s teammate Broc Feeney was fourth ahead of Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Will Davison, while Scott Pye just missed out on a top five berth in the Team 18 ZB Commodore.

Chaz Mostert was seventh in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing ZB Commodore, from the second Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang of Anton De Pasquale, Subway PremiAir Racing’s James Golding and Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries backed Brad Jones Racing entry.

Just missing the 10 were Lee Holdsworth, Mark Winterbottom, David Reynolds and Brodie Kostecki.

Nick Percat and Will Brown struggled at the rear of the field finishing outside the top 20.

There were also many scraps exiting Turn 11, particularly from Waters in the Monster Energy Racing Mustang on his hot lap.
