There will be two Repco Supercars Championship drivers lining up on the grid for the NASCAR Cup Series round at Indianapolis next month as Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen has confirmed his return.
After winning on NASCAR Cup Series debut on the streets of Chicago, van Gisbergen will once again combine with Trackhouse Racing to contest the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard race utilising the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Joining van Gisbergen on the grid will be title rival Brodie Kostecki after it was announced earlier this week, he will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut with Richard Childress Racing at the legendary circuit.
“I never dreamed this could have all rolled out this way,” said van Gisbergen.
“Just getting to race in NASCAR is an opportunity I never thought I would get, but then to win and get another chance this year is beyond anything I imagined.
“I can’t thank [Trackhouse founder and owner] Justin Marks, everyone at Trackhouse Racing and NASCAR for this opportunity.
“Everyone in NASCAR welcomed me to Chicago and it’s been awesome to see how big the reception from that race has been around the world.
“I am honoured to be part of it.”
Former Formula 1 stars Jensen Button and Kamui Kobayashi are also set to be on the grid at Indianapolis.
Although it is expected van Gisbergen will head stateside in 2024, this second outing was less expected and occurs at a venue the NASCAR Cup Series field have already raced at ensuring the Supercars stars will be a little behind their rivals.
This also marks the final non-oval NASCAR event to not clash with a Repco Supercars Championship round.
It will be a short turnaround for both as the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard occurs just a weekend before The Bend SuperSprint on August 18-20.
