Special liveries add unique flavour to Penrite Sandown 500

Two teams will feature special liveries at the Penrite Sandown 500 celebrating 60 years this season.

Just like last year, Penrite Racing has paid tribute to racing legend Allan Moffat as it honours the 50th anniversary in the 1974 Sandown 250 in the Brut Ford Falcon GT XB Coupe.

Nicknamed ‘Project B52’ after Moffat completed development in the United States, the XB took victory at Sandown and was destined to retire at Bathurst where the Canadian teamed with German touring car ace Dieter Glemser.

Although the original ‘Project B52’ was destroyed in a transporter fire at Murray Bridge during the 1976 season.

However, it has faithfully been replicated by a Tasmanian Moffat fan and will be on display at the Penrite Sandown 500.

It was also displayed alongside the Penrite Racing Ford Mustangs to be shared by Matt Payne, Garth Tander, Richie Stanaway and Dale Wood.

Penrite Racing’s tribute last year replicated Moffat’s Federation Insurance from 1979.

“Allan Moffat’s legacy in Australian motorsport is unmatched, and Penrite Oil are proud to honour his incredible contribution to the sport with this special tribute livery,” said Penrite Oil CEO Toby Dymond.

“The design captures the spirit of Moffat’s 1974 racing triumphs, combining historical elements with a modern twist, reflecting the passion and heritage that have defined Penrite’s involvement in Australian motorsport.”

SCT Motorsport’s Jaxon Evans launched a new livery on his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 highlighting 50 years of SCT.

Founded by Pete Smith in 1974, SCT has more than 55 locomotives and 1100 staff as Evans revealed the Camaro at the company’s Altona headquarters.

Evans will team with the experienced Dean Fiore at Sandown and Bathurst.

Boost Mobile has come onboard as sponsor for the Matt Chadha Motorsport Wildcard entry.

A late deal completed three days before the Penrite Sandown 500 brokered between Boost boss Peter Adderton and the MCM squad will ensure its place on the grid.

It will be Matt Chadha’s second Wildcard after linking up with Jaylyn Robotham in 2022, while Tickford Racing Super2 prospect Brad Vaughan makes his debut.

PremiAir Nulon Racing has a fresh livery at Sandown featuring a lot more white compared to its black appearance first introduced last year.

Finally, Repco Supercars Championship teams will pay tribute to Campbell Little after he lost his fight with pancreatic cancer last month.

Little was a mainstay of the Supercars paddock for more than 40 years winning multiple championships and Bathurst as part of a variety of teams.

“Campbell was a very important person, for the sport and in life,” two-time Sandown 500 winner Mark Winterbottom said.

“He was a really good bloke, and I’m really proud to run this on the car.

“While I don’t need a sticker to remember him, this is a great tribute, and an honour to one of the greatest people that we’ve ever seen in the sport.”
