It was built to win, and it did just that.
The one-off, aluminium monocoque Repco V8-powered Elfin MS7 was built by renowned South Australian designer/builder Garrie Cooper. The sole purpose for its creation was to win the Australian Sports Car Championship, and it did just that, taking the title at Phillip Island in 1975.
With a dry weight of 730 kg, the MS7 was derived from the Cooper-built MS6 Formula 5000 car, with full-width bodywork influenced by the Porsche 917/10 Can-Am car. Producing big downforce, it was hard to catch on the track.
The cars is currently owned by long-time Australian racer Robert Tweedie, and when he retired in 2016, he has handed the keys to his capable son Tom.
In this exclusive video to The Garage, Tom gives you a history lesson in the Repco-powered Elfin MS7, and talks about when it’s like to drive.
