This weekend marks another edition of the highly popular Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival where some spectacular vehicles will be on display and setting times around the shortened Victoria Park layout.
The Repco Garage reveals its top five vehicles to see in Adelaide, and boy it was hard to decide!
Leyton House CG891 Judd
Otherwise known as the March CG891, this Adrian Newey-designed Formula 1 chassis led to a successful period for the legendary manufacturer. However, the CG891 was riddled with reliability problems centred on the gearbox, but it played an important role in a successful 1990 for Leyton House-March.
Mazda 767B
Japan wins Le Mans for the first time and it was Mazda with its unique Wankel rotary technology doing the job in the last year of its eligibility. A truly last gasp victory. It will make Adelaide rock courtesy of its distinct high-pitched engine note.
Toyota Supra MA70
There are plenty of Group A specification Commodores, M3s and Sierras, but the Supra was a what could have been moment for Toyota. Too heavy and not suiting the regulations in addition to Toyota not fully backing the programme due to its strong rallying connections make the MA70 Supra a unique machine. Oh, also Alan Jones won the first race for the MA70 in Japan.
Ferrari 308 Group IV
Ferrari and rallying? Surely not. Indeed, Ferrari went rallying with the 308 Group IV in 1978 and it achieved its first victory at the Monza Rally the next year. Further success followed culminating in a podium finish on the 1982 Tour de Corse World Rally Championship event for Jean-Claude Andruet and Chantal Bouchetal. It is sure to be a spectacular addition to the rally field.
Brabham BT19
Must we give a reason? An iconic model of Formula 1 due to being the only World Drivers’ Championship winner to also bear the name of the driver as a constructor. Jack Brabham won the 1966 title in a chassis designed by Ron Tauranac featuring a Repco engine. Fans will be able to find this in a special display next to the Repco Pit Stop Challenge.
The Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival is a must attend for all motoring enthusiasts and will occur this weekend on March 16-17.
