Walkinshaw Andretti United throwback to 1990s with retro livery

In a memory of the last time touring cars raced on the full Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit supporting the Australian Grand Prix, Walkinshaw Andretti United have released its retro livery from the mid-1990s.

Calling on its near-three decade history as the factory Holden Racing Team, which ended in 2016, Walkinshaw Andretti United’s livery features the lion and helmet design used by the team in the early 1990s.

The retro livery extends also to the race suits of drivers Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat, who holds a family connection to the South Australian Holden plant in Elizabeth. Percat’s family association with the brand is four-generations deep.

Between 1990 and 2022, Walkinshaw Andretti United achieved 187 wins and 274 podiums as Adelaide also marks the end of the squad’s association with General Motors as it will enter two Ford Mustangs for the first season of Gen3.

Walkinshaw Andretti United held a photoshoot this morning at the former Holden assembly plant in Elizabeth.

Team Principal Bruce Stewart explained the livery was designed to thanks the fans for the support during Holden’s journey as it closes the book on this era for the team.

“We wanted to do something special for the last ever Holden race,” Stewart said.

“It just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t have the lion and the helmet on the side of our cars for one last time.

“We know how much it means to so many people.

“This team has had such a long a storied history with Holden, we bled red, our fans bled red.

“For the final roar, it’s only fitting we reflect back on the journey we’ve had and thank everyone involved, from the fans who have supported us through thick and thin, the thousands of people who contributed to Holden over its journey, and everyone here who has been a part of our team.

“It finishing in Adelaide is also fitting, with so many people contributing to the Holden legacy just down the road at the Elizabeth plant, the place Nick’s father, grandfather and great grandfather worked as well – these people were the lifeblood of Holden.

“A thank you to all of our partners who have supported this, we are looking forward to hopefully sending the brand off in the best possible way over the weekend.”

The Repco Supercars Championship concludes in Adelaide this weekend with opening practice beginning at 3:55pm ACDT on Thursday.
