Title contender Will Brown has set the early pace Mount Panorama, but only just as the Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver led the opening session by just 0.007s from Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne.
Brown’s benchmark was a 2m 05.965s set with 20-minutes remaining in the opening session, but it was Payne improving his times in the final stages to just miss out on the bragging rights.
Championship leader Brodie Kostecki was third in the second Coca-Cola by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, with 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert and the Penrite Racing Ford Mustang of David Reynolds handing Ford the numerical advantage inside the top five.

Sixth was Scott Pye in the Toyota Forklifts-supported Team 18 Camaro from the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet of Sandown 500 co-winner Broc Feeney as Anton De Pasquale led the charge in eighth for the Shell V-Power Racing Team.
Andre Heimgartner for Pirtek Pit Lane Challenge winners R&J Batteries Racing and the Triple Eight Race Engineering Wildcard entry of Craig Lowndes rounded out the top 10.
Just outside the top 10 were Tickford Racing drivers Thomas Randle, James Courtney and Cam Waters, with Will Davison 14th, Shane van Gisbergen 15th and Mark Winterbottom 18th. Nick Percat was 20th, Jack Le Brocq 21st and the Dick Johnson Racing Wildcard completed the field.
Only the Wildcard Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang of Aaron Love and Jake Kostecki exited the road, occurring at The Chase twice.
